suddenly today when i restarted i cant restart. Two things happened when i
installed bestcrypt and had to reboot

the bios did not recognize the dvd rw drive. But continuing through the
boot screens the dvd did show as device 1 in the part where devices are
recognized.

but when i get to the login screen the keyboard and mouse dont respond at
all. I know the system sees them because they operate in the bios setup
area, in the pre winxp boot area [i can use F8 to get to the safe mode menu
and can select one of the modes]

but when i get asked for the supervisor password i can't enter it.

I have taken out the dvd and replaced it with a cdrw that i know works but
bios can't see it. so i took it out altogether and still the same kb/mouse
problem.

Sys Specs

Any suggestions that dont involve re installing will be welcomed. those
involving reinstalling will be accepted through gritted teeth. Any involving

Sorry to bump such an old post, but I'm having the same problem. I can use the keyboard to boot into safemode and do stuff in BIOS, but when Windows boots and asks for a password to log in, my keyboard doesnt respond. My mouse works, however. Unfortunately, I dont have any non-passworded accounts.

I'm having this problem too. I can't even get into safe mode, or boot from a cd.

Use a PS/2 keyboard.

If you're absolutely set on using a USB keyboard, ensure that "USB Legacy support" or "USB Keyboard Support" is enabled in the BIOS. Without it, Windows requires a driver to be installed in order to make use of a USB keyboard.
