Does this mean it can support up to 8 SATA 6/gbs also?

No, SAS is Serial Attached SCSI and not SATA. According to the Intel site this chipset will support a total of 6 SATA ports, four of which are SATA 3.0 Gb/s and two of which are SATA 6.0 Gb/s.
