Asus ipibl lb - Nvidia gtx 480

I have the ASUS IPIB - LB motherboard and just acquire a nvidia gtx480.

The card is long and covers the sata 0 and sata 1 connectors.

Can i connect my main hard drive to the sata 2 connector?

Thanks in advance for your help.

  1. Just try it.
Theoretically it should work just fine.

But if I may ask, why would you want a GTX480 in that OEM Mobo/Case/PSU. Its gonna get pretty hot if the PSU runs it at all.
  2. I got a coolmater hyper tx3 for the cpu and a coolmater power supply too.

I hope this can help to heat problems.

    What do you think?
  3. A CPU cooler doesn't do anything to the GPU heat, and CM PSUS aren't the best, which model to be exact?

When you have a cramped small case with bad airflow, the GTX480 is going to overheat like crazy. You can get a Gelid Icy vision, but a new case would be a much better investment IMO.

Yes you can, you will have to go into BIOS and set SATA port to boot from but it can be any SATA connector.
  5. Mousemonkey is right, my main hard drive is Sata... 3 I think.

Timop is also right, I wouldn't put a GTX480 in a small cramped case, granted I don't think it would be hard to mod to make better...

I have 5 HDD's and I couldn't tell you which one is the boot drive other than it's not SATA 0.
  7. Well, right now i'm writing from the computer with the gtx 480, the main hard drive is connected to sata 2 without problems.

@Timop The Cool Master power supply is the M700.

But yes this case is small. :(

Soon i will get a new case, mobo and i'm thimking an I7. but for now this will help me to edit some hi def video and finish a project that was just horrible to edit with a smaller video card.

Thanks to everyone for your posts.
