hi,
i just bought ut2004 yesterday, and can't install the game. it gets so far
each time (usually as far as the maps or sound, not the same place each time
though) and throws up an error saying :

" Failed reading source file : F:\CD1\..\AS-Glacier.ut2
the source media may be bad.if installing from a cd,try cleaning the cd to
remove any dirt. "

the dvd is brand new with no scratches,i've tried it in both dvd
drives(neither of which have ever given me any problems before).
pc has xp running with up to date graphics, directx 9b etc.
many thanks for any help,
cheers,

Clean the CD, if that doesn't fix it, get a replacement game from the
shop.

all fixed now,thanks
got the following reply from atari ,which actually worked :

Hi,

Please try the following.

Changing the DMA access within Windows XP

Right click "My Computer"
Select Properties
Click on the "Hardware" tab in System properties
Click Device Manager
You should see a section for IDE ATA/ATAPI Controlers.

[Here is where your DVD Roms IDE Connection and also the source of the
problem. You will be able to change the data mode by right clicking on the
correct IDE channel and selecting properties. Find out if your DVD ROM is
connected to the Primary or Secondary IDE Channel. Secondary is most
common.]

Right click on your IDE Channel and click properties
Click the "Advanced Settings" tab
Your DVD-ROM will be either device 0 or 1
Change the "Transfer Mode" to "PIO Only"
Click Ok and Close everything. I would reccomend a restart but some may not
need one.

INSTALL from the DVD.

Follow the same steps to switch the transfer mode back to its original
setting

Ok, good. I'd hate to see a single problem with a dozen different
possible causes ;-)

yep, according to him its all to do with the way the drive reads the
informatyion, cos he was trying to install windows at the time, and it would
get so far (different place each time) and throw up an error. apparently
itll cope for so long, and then throw a wobbly (trying not to dazzle myself
with technical jargon there 8 )) )
many thanks,
