Difference between quad core and i3 processor

The same as the difference between a tissue and a kleenex, one is a brand name, one is a type of product.

AFAIK all i3's are dual cores with hyper threading, which gives them two physical cores, and 4 logical cores, hyper threaded cores arent as good as real cores, they are not quad cores.

Which i3 and which quad core processor are you looking at? Are you looking at Core 2 Quads?

Which quad core are you referring to? Quad=4 CPU cores, while the i3 series are all dual core CPU's.

I'm looking at the difference between the HP - Pavillion Desktop/AMD PhenomII Quad-Core Processor/ 8 GB Memory/1.5 TB Hard Drive and the
HP - Pavillion Desktop/IntelCore i3 Processor/8 GB Memory/1TB Hard Drive

The primary difference would be the two core in the Intel i3 CPU and the 4 cores in whatever quad core CPU you are trying to compare.
