I am getting the following message " SATA 1 Hard Disk backS.M.A.R.T. status bad up and replace. My system is only a couple of months old and is running fine other than getting the error message to run sys bakc...can someone tell me what the problem might be?
SMART stands for self monitering analyzing reporting technology.
It is a self test of your Hard Drive, basically, it's like you have a check engine light going on. If it's just a couple of months old, save critical data to a thumbdrive, and call the manufacturer, it should be covered in under warranty still, they should replace it free of cost.
A new hard drive would be under $100, possibly under $50 depending on the size.
