Easy way to update the BIOS?

I have a Gigabyte Ga31-G31M-ES2L and have never updated a BIOS in my life.
I'd like to know what's the easiest way of updating my BIOS and if that's really necessary or if it's going to improve my system in any way. I've seen on the Gigabyte site that there is a newer(by about 7 months) BIOS and I've downloaded the file. What is the easiest way to update it now?

PS: My 3.5" disk drive isn't working. Is there an alternative to using a flash drive? If not, what should I do with it?

Download and install gigabytes @bios utility. It will let you update the bios from within windows.
