Hey guys, I kind of have a unique situation on my hands. I've got a little cousin building his first gaming PC. He's a good kid but he didn't have a lot of money. I agreed to donate my Radeon 5770 towards his cause.

My original plan for my PC included adding an additional 5770 to my rig. I've got around 250 US dollars to go towards my new video card. I'm kind of befuddled at the moment. The new Nvidia cards weren't out yet when I bought my 5770 and now I can't decide between an HD 5000 series or something from Nvidia's 400 series.

Here's my specs:

Cooler Master HAF 922
Asus P7P55D E-Pro 1156 Mobo
Core i7 860
8 GB (4x2GB) G. Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600 (running at spec timings: 7-8-7)
Intel X25-V 40GB SSD (Boot Drive)
Caviar Black 600 GB 10k RPM (2 of these)
Corsair 650 Watt power supply

and of course, the HD Radeon 5770

Any feedback and recommendations for my new video card from the great community here at TH would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Solution
Since your mobo support SLi then why don't you go with GTX460 for now and you can add another one later if you have money...

I know my platform isn't primed for Crossfire, but I figured 2 5770's on my board running at x8 x8 would work just fine. I don't really want to wait, the sooner I buy my new card the sooner I can give my lil' cousin his new video card for his 1st gaming rig. :)

Yeah, GTX 460 1gb looks like the way to go. At reference speeds the card is about 30% faster than the HD5770 but it can OC to a much larger degree, often 33% or higher. When/If you want to add a second card both your motherboard and power supply can handle it. Two in SLI are on par with an HD5970.
