Just tried booting my new built system yesterday and, lol, I think I'm not going to start mixing my music anytime soon!

The mobos POWER and RESET switch lights are on, but when I click POWER or hold the MemOk!, I hear everything start but a split second later everything turns off. Only the psu fan keeps blowing some fresh air to cool my angry-red face.

No other lights but the ones mentioned above turn on, I suspect a bad motherboard?

Oh, and the first time I tried I heard what I think is short circuit sound, could that be me? I've worn an antistatic bracelet all the time :(

thanks for your time!

System:
i7-2600k cpu
P8Z68-V Pro mb
8 gig Corsair XMS3 mem
850w Z series OCZ Psu
1 x Gigabyte 560ti gpu
Spinpoint f4 hdd
Coolermaster 212 cooler

I would do what is known as a "breadboard"

Take MB out of case, lay it on a flat surface. preferably put a towel under it.

Plug in ONLY the CPU, 1 stick of RAM, and the GPU.

Plug in power to MB (24 pin, 8pin) and Power to GPU (6pin)

use a pin or paperclip to jump the 2 pins labled pwr (that you had the wire from the front of the case plugged into.

What happens then? does it start?

This step is going to eliminate a lot of different possibilities.
