HDD not recognized

I currently damaged my Sony Laptop and decided to extract all the hard-drive from the laptop "Hitachi 500GB" and use my HDD DOCK + Macbook to retrieve the data.

However, the HDD could only be recognised in disk utility but not mounted! i tried to format and repartition it using disk utility but they all ended up with errors. I'm using LION os.

How can i format the hard-drive then try to recover the data using powerful recovery solutions.

with formatting you erase data so why would you erase and then try to recover? go to a local computer store and ask for data recovery before you wipe the drive

Formatting is data destructive. Don't do it.

If your Sony laptop was running a Microsoft NTFS file system, then your Mac should have been able to mount it in readonly mode. It sounds like your drive may have physical problems.
