Hello, I wanted to ask if its a good time to buy a graphic card right now. I have built my own rig around a year ago but used my old hd3850 and it was doing ok but now its just way outdated and cant play some games i want at all. So I was wondering if I should wait for new 6 series or maybe new nvidia cards, dont care about brand, most bang for my buck is what matters thought i find nvidia's physx cuda etc attractive contrary to eyefinity which ill never use.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz 8MB AM3 Black Box
Antec Midi Tower Three Hundred No PSU
Antec Voeding Earthwatts 650W
Asus Crosshair III Formula AMD 790FX, SATA2 RAID
Chieftec Casefan AF-1225S 120mm, Sleeve Bearing
Fractal Design Casefan Silent Series 140mm
Nexus Fan 120mm Silent Fan Blue LED
Noctua Processor Koeler NH-U9 AMD & Intel
OCZ 2x2GB DDR3 SDRAM PC8500 CL7.0 Gold Edition
Western Digital 640GB SATA300 32MB, WD6401AALS
Zalman Speed Controller ZM-MFC1 PLUS (zilver)

and my crappy old hd3850
under 300 euro, which is what gtx470 cost on the site im buying most my hardware.(https://www.4launch.nl/shop/get/p-18#p-1-subshop-Compon...)

And if its ok to buy a card atm what would you recommend for me, i have been a bit absent from all the hardware world for a while so dont know the situation atm.

if you want to wait for a few weeks until 6xxx series out then okay, but if you don't want to wait then go with your plan (GTX470).
You can add another GTX470 later since your mobo support SLI.

Wait for the HD6xxx cards to hit the market. Then let the prices settle down. Check the benchmark results and see which one you want.

I would say 2-3 months later would be an ideal time.

Indeed, try and live with your current card and wait til 6xxx comes out. That way you can say you made the most informed choice possible between three types of cards (Fermi, 5xxx and 6xxx).

ok thanks, i hope 6xxx cards gonna be good and at a right price. cause i heard they are based on 5xxx and wont be a big leap at all.

yes... if you really can wait for the hd 6000 series thats good... if you can't really wait you can try gtx 460 1gb.... gtx 470 is good... but much more expensive and uses far more power... i think gtx 460 is the most bang for buck card for right now...
you'll definitely notice huge improvement over your hd 3850 believe me....

Even if the 6xxx series of cards is not a huge leap, waiting for them to hit the market will prolly result in a price drop of the 5xxx cards. Personally, that's what I'm waiting for to upgrade fomr my 4890.

But as mentioned, if you can't wait, the the 1GB 460GTX currently seems to be the sweet spot.

Initially when they come out the 6xxx cards would be a little expensive. If you are in US then the prices would normalize after a month maybe.

In my country (India), price drops hit our market 1-2 months later than US market.

listen... if you keep waiting until the 6ooo series coming out... perhaps by that time nvidia will have something under their sleeves... then what? you wait again? come on... technology never stops innovating... as long as you have the money for it.. your hd 3850 is pretty old and worst than my previous 8800gt... go and buy gtx 460.... i suggest you x wait...
