Building First Computer, Help

Last response: in Systems

Hello, I am new to this site and I hope to get some help with building my first computer. The computer will be used mainly for gaming -- not much video editting or such. I live in South Korea, thus, the prices are different and I can't set a budget yet. I just want to get an idea of what parts I should buy in order to have an efficient gaming pc which can run almost all games at 1600x1--- res.
The processor I have in mind to start the build is the i7 870, along with a GTX 460 or HD 6850 for a GPU. The rest, I need help with. :D

Best solution

For a gaming PC, you wont need the i7 IMO...
You can go either with Intel or AMD(This offers better value for money if building a gaming PC)

Intel build -

CPU - i5 7xx

Mobo - Gigabyte P55-USB3 or Gigabyte P55A-UD3(If you want SATA 6GB/s as well)

AMD build -

CPU - X4 955

Mobo - Gigabyte/ ASUS/ MSI 880 or 870 chipset board

Rest same -

RAM - 4GB DDR3 preferably from Corsair/ GSKillz/ Mushkin

CASE - Antec 300/ 300 Illusion/ Cooler Master HAF 912 or 922 or 690/ NZXT Gamma with additional fans...

PSU - 500-550W+ from Corsair/ Seasonic/ Silverstone/ PCP&S/ OCZ/ Antec EA or TP or ECO/ CM Silent PRO or Real Power

HDD - Samsung F3 preferably

Video Card - With the money saved on the CPU, get the HD 6870...

Also, I just took a look at the bench between the two CPUs. I think I will go with the intel lol. Does the i5 760 have a special technology --hyperthreading-- or something like it?

I think I will go ahead with i5 760.

Then What about the motherboard? I really have trouble with picking motherboards. I just want a board that will allow me to overclock the most. However, more importanly, I want USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB feature as gkay09 mentioned above.

^ All the above board are good enough for a decent overclock say to 3.8 or maybe upto 4GHz...
But the above ASUS and the ASRock boards dont have USB3.0/ SATA 6GB/s

Currently, it seems that I will buy i5 760/ ASRock P55 Extreme4. Now the GPU.......
Can a single GTX 460 or HD 6850 run COD M2, 2K11 (NBA), Starcraft 2, and future games at high- max settings?

That board does have some drawbacks...
Check some of its reviews...

And as for the graphic cards, HD 6850 would be faster than the GTX 460 and would run those games comfortably at High-Max setting @ your screen's resolution, but I doubt with AA and AF enabled though...

Yeah, I have read those reviews before. However, I still think that a little downgrade in performance is worth the trade for those other features.
I read that the 6850 doesn't have voltage control and that is runs hotter than a 460. I am thinking about jumping to 6870 or just 460.

CPU: i5 760
MOBO: asrock p55 extreme 4
GPU: gtx 460 or hd 6870 (depending on the overall cost)

now I need to worry about the PSU, which costs a butt load for some strange reason. Anything over 500w costs $80-$200, and I'm planning on a 600w-700w. Will a 600w be alright, or am I fine with a 500w supply?

Just make sure you get the PSU from Tier 1 manufacturer - Corsair/ Seasonic/ Silverstone/ PCP&S/ Antec EA or TP or ECO Series / Cooler MAster Real Power or Silent PRO series/ even OCZ Fatality and Mod series are fine...
