3 Case fans on a Asus Z68 pro? Enough fan headers?

Question: Does the Asus z68 pro have enough fan headers for 3 case fans, and the rest of the computer's fans, so I can plug them into the motherboard and not directly into the power supply? I want to be able to control the case fan speed through the motherboard.

These are the components:
-3 case fans
-1 CPU cooler fan
-Corsair 750TX power supply (does it use any motherboard fan headers?)

According to the Asus website the z68 pro has the following fan headers:

2 x CPU Fan connector(s) (4 -pin)
2 x Chassis Fan connector(s) (1 x 4 -pin, 1 x 3 -pin)
2 x Power Fan connector(s) (3 -pin)


Does this mean I will only be able to plug 2 out of the 3 case fans into the motherboard? It's says two are for the CPU fan (im only using one CPU fan), two are for case fans, and two are for the power supply.

First only the 4-pin have speed control and require 4-pin fan(s), you can use a 'Y' connector to run up to 3 fans per header. However, if the case fan is a low noise <25 dBA then it's simpler to run them directly off the PSU at 100%.

Second, I am not an advocate of running a case full of fans off the MOBO, but instead get a dedicated Fan Controller.

Thank you. Well this is the case I am looking at. It has two 140mm fans in the front and one 120mm fan in the rear. Newegg incorrectly has it listed as only having one 140 front fan.

I would prefer not to have to buy an extra fan controller. Would it make sense to run the front 140mm fans from the power supply and run the rear 120mm on the motherboard? Do you think the fans on this case are durable enough to run 100% off the power supply? Is that usually not recommended?

I was mainly concerned about potential noise issues, or the lifespan of the fans from running 100%.

Usually, you would just plug your case fans into the 3-pin headers and let them run at their normal speed, unless your case comes with fans that are known to be very loud (case fans are usually pretty quiet, so I wouldn't worry). Your motherboard has 4 x 3-pin fan headers, so you will be fine.

Also, the PSU fan powers itself, so need to worry about a fan header for it.

9/10 the fans are all 3-pin and they're fine running 100% and frankly choosing between MOBO and PSU to power fans, except CPU, it's best to use the PSU. So to 'control' the fan speed you're looking at a Fan Controller <or> other voltage reduction i.e. switching or inline resistor.

I always use a Fan Controller and typically never {rarely} use OEM fans.

If the noise is low then simple - run them off the PSU.

Hi,
Check this out http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10350/cab-183/Akasa_P... . This PWM splitter synchronizes up to three PWM fans off of your motherboard and supplies the power via PSU molex cable.
It will also connect 3-pin fans but they will be at full speed. There are other splitters that will provide 5V & 7V to lower the 12V 3-pin fan speed without a fan controller.
