Gtx 250 worth it on a 720 p monitor

My friend told me that if i have a 720 p monitor a gts 250 will be overdoing it. my goal is to play most games on ultra, so is a gts 250 over doing it for a 720 p monitor and if is what graphics card can i get to play most game on ultra

Isn't 720p just 1280×720, that is rediculously low, a GTS250 will be fine on it...

For 1280*720, the GTS250 should even max out Crysis.
A HD5670 would be fine even.

your friend is a dork. Thats a good match. You dont want anything lower than a gts250 if you want any kind of future proofing for your gaming system. I would opt for an ati 5750 for roughly the same price though, its a bit faster in most games, supports dx11 and uses less power. I think when it comes to gfx cards, you always want to over-do it a little bit so they dont become outdated so quickly.

Its like throwing a HD5870 for 1080P, nice but overkill.

For even 1366*768, the 5670 is a nice choice, will yield at least 30+ fps for even the latest games, after all he can always upgrade. Though for the money, the 4850 seems great , its more or less the same price as the 5670 for 5750 like performance.

I got a 1360-768 720p monitor, i want to be able to play most games on ultra but dont want to spend much, my budget is 130$for a graphics card. I was thinking the gts 250 but i dont think my power supply can handle it any one can give me some graphics card that can run most games on ultra that are in my budget.

The best you can do is a 5670, and even that is probably pushing it depending on the specs of the PSU.

What is your budget? Maybe we can help you get a PSU and GPU combo.

Otherwise save up till you have a little more cash.

Running anything on a 250w PSU is iffy, I know you can get lucky and a GT240/5670 can work, but its not a very good permanent solution.

well the gts250 will not run on that PSU, so thats out of the question. What you need is a decent brand 400w psu to run that. It maybe best to save your pennies and get a new PSU and GFX card. something like this -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371033 is needed. With that you will be able to run most mid range graphics cards.
