Question Regarding Compatability and Upgradeablity

Hello,
I have a Hp 6510f desktop, which happened to come with a AMD 785G chip, whatever that means. Everything is stock, as in, it is the original 250 watt power supply, it is the original 4 gb's ram, etc. I was wondering if I could pop in my nVidia GT240 into the PCI-E x16 slot, and whether this would cause any issues?

  1. no problem, go ahead and do it

the 785G is the chipset as in the veins and arteries of your mobo.

the GT240 would work just fine in that setup

Would I need to upgrade the Power supply?

Also, are there any ATI cards that I can use which are backwards compatible? I was looking at the 5650, but then found out that there were issues with actually getting the card to run.
