EXTERNAL DVD DRIVE NOT RECOGNIZED BY MY HP LAPTPO

Hello,
I recently purchased a USB LG DVD burner. All of a sudden, my USB ports are not
functioning properly. I have 3 ports on my laptop, and have tried all of
them. Also, my mouse works, but only if it is plugged in when I start my
computer. If it is unplugged, and then plugged back in, the computer can't
find it.and my dvd drive is also not recognized .MY OPERATING SYSTEM IS WINDOWS XP

Try plugging in all of your USB devices after shutdown and restart your computer with all of them connected. If nothing has connected in the OS, try to go to device manager and post what the device manager says about the drives and USB ports.
