I have this motherboard: ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO AM3 AMD 785G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131398)

I recently purchased and wanted to upgrade to this memory: CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145347&Tpk=N82E16820145347)

However, when insert this memory I have no video.

I want to have a total of 16gb of memory...does anyone have any ideas on what 4gb sticks that would work with this board?

Any speed the board is rated for I am good with I just want it to work out of the box.

Thanks in advance...

Solution

Beenthere is correct about Asus boards being sensitive to having all 4 slots populated; especially with the fastest RAM. Especially the earlier boards. I had a P5N-E SLI board that refused to be stable with any 800MHZ DDR2 memory (fastest for the board back then) in all 4 slots. I either had to use 667MHZ in all 4 slots, or live with 800MHZ in just the 2 slots. Thay may be your issue, as well.

Btw, I have built several systems since then, all with DDR3 memory, Asus and other boards. The one memory that I found always worked no matter what board it was in was the Kingston value Ram. If you are forced to buy new...

I would download the QVL for that board and see what Asus has passed for it.

Use the global link.

If the RAM kit you purchased is approved for AMD Phenom II CPUs I'd contact Corsair Tech Support and discuss the issue with them. For the moment you can try booting with one or two DIMMs and then run Memtest86+ from a floppy, CD or flash drive to check the individual DIMMs to make sure you didn't get a bad one.

16 GB. of RAM can be tricky and Asus mobos seem to be very RAM sensitive.

Ok, Great info #clutchc. I think I will go this route with the Kingston. Thanks again for the feedback.
