Your question does not really make sense...there is no such thing as a "SATA Operating System." SATA= Serial ATA, which is a Hardware spec for drives (Optical, Hard drives, Solid State Drives, etc.). Virtual Drives? Do you mean to mount some sort of ISO Image?

If you have a SATA Hard drive and you want to see if it has an OS on it but do not want to boot up into it use a live-cd to view the file structure. I use two different live cds to accomplish this myself..
1. GPARTed (free to download/use)
2. Ubuntu (Any version) free to download
