WinRAR Extraction Issue

Greetings,

I have recently extracted a ".exe" file from a ".rar" file. I do this quite often and they are safe to use, but yesterday, one file took a bit more time for WinRAR to extract. When the process was complete, I looked in the ".exe" properties and the file was apparently modified in date of today, but the original ".exe" file was only modified several months ago. Both files have the exact same size and they are still fully functional.

I would just like to know what happened to the file exactly.

Can files be damaged while extracting them?

This is a rare case, but if people are familiar with WinRAR's extracting process, I would like to learn more.

Thank you for your time.

when you extracted it from the archive you created a new 'uncompressed' copy on the hdd so yes the last modified date should be "Today".

That's an option while extracting. You can keep the original date or set today.

Would you be able to be more precise? I extracted the file the exact same way I always do. I tried repeating the process, but the file kept its original "modified date" every other time.

Thanks in advance buddy.

Open the rar and click the "extract to...". The option in question is on the advanced (or something like this) tab.
