Hi,
I use windows 7 pro 64bit OS. I want a 2 TB hdd for storage in my home pc. From what I have seen I have 4 options:
1. Western Digital Red WD20EFRX (NAS HDD)
2. WD Caviar Green WD20EARX
3. SeaGate ST2000DM001 (had bad reliability reviews)
4. SeaGate ST2000DL003

WD20EFRX took my eye for about 40$ more than the alternatives. I read good reviews about it (much more robust and reliable than the green or blue WD HDD's), but don't know if this HDD can work in my computer as a regular HDD (beacasue it is a NAS HDD). I also don't know if its speed is good comparing it to the other alternatives I wrote.

My questions are:
1. Can this HDD work in my computer as a regular HDD ?
2. Is its speed is good comparing it to the other alternatives I wrote ?
3. What would you choose as an HDD for your home (new suggestions are welcome) ?

Thanks,
Eyal

Yes it will work fine. Its faster than the earx green drive.
What I would choose would depend on what I needed from it.
Speed I would only look at 7200rmps drives and the red drives do look promising. They are not a year old yet so there isn't good reliability info on them yet.

Quiet & low heat Earx (I have 2 and they have worked perfect for a year now)

raid - spinpont f3 or f4's, WD RE3 or RE4's - never had an issue with either

Hi,
I have decided to clean samsung F3 drive I had and make some free space. Instead of buying an HDD for backup I decided to buy ssd for my OS. I bought Samsung 840 pro 250GB. It works well.

Thanks for the help,
Eyal
