When I got the game 2 weeks ago , the benchmark gave me 27 fbs !!
Today , I made another test and I got 17 !!
During game play , I get 40-70 fbs but on high physx scenes I drop to 10 or 7 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know what happened , I tried re-installing the drivers (newest) but it's the same .
I also made sure the physx is running on the GFX card not the CPU.
Is there something wrong ?!
I know that
But it's strange that 2 weeks ago I got 27 and now I get only 17 !!
on high physx scenes I drop t o7 but before it didn't drop so much !!
I tried modifying physx from gpu to cpu and then back to gpu, strangely , i got the same fraps on benchmarks as if I didn't change any thing !!!!!
I doubt that I'm running physx on cpu not gpu.
I checked it at the nvidia control panel but I found that IT'S RUNNING ON GPU NOT CPU !!
Mazier, ati cards take bigger hits on physx than nvidia ones. So, your case is different. But rozx, your case is a little strange. Did you put any patch of mafia 2 in these 2 weeks? Sometimes latest patches can result in decreased performance on select systems.
No , I didn't
but I installed other games which I think some how modified the game .
Moments ago , I have uninstalled the game and physx driver and reinstalled it .
I ran the benchmark and I got 22 fbs !!.
I went to nvidia CP to make sure physx is running on GPU and it was so I changed it to cpu and then to gpu , ran the benchmark and I got 29 fbs , even better than before .
This game is crazy
Sounds like a CPU bottleneck, what's your system specs? I also have a GTX470 and i get about 40FPS in the benchmark with max everything, aside from Ambient Occlusion. Stupidly big performance hit for little visual gain. I get about 49-50 in the benchmark with only medium physics.
During the game i'm capped at 60 most the time. 1080p resolution.
I've core I5 750 stock.
My settings are all maxed out with physx high and AA on and all on except for vsync.
During gameplay I get around 40 to 70 fbs , I am also running on 1920*1080 (1080P)
It's just the benchmark which is crazy , every time I run it , I get a different value .
When I close AO I get about 36 Fbs but physx is high .
Yup i scored 35.3 to be exact, so that's where you should be.
Try making physx medium...honestly there isn't any noticeable difference other then a few more particles that are unnecessary. It should add about 10 fps or so. Physx on medium gave me a score of 44.3 to be exact again. AO is what was killing it for yeah i think.
I made some tests and the results were close
I used to driver profiles to make these testes
First profile is stock
1-all max , physx H , AO on>>>29.3
2-all max , physx H , AO off>>>31.5
3-all max physx M , AO on>>>>31.9
4-all max, physx M , AO off >>>33.2
I changed the driver settings for mafia 2 and changed every thing to maxmum value not stock
these are the results
i would just have physx completely off if it keeps giving you poor performance
No , it's just the benchmark which gives low fbs but the actual gameplay gives 40fbs at least and the game is very smooth.
If you read the tests well , you will notice that physx decreases performance by only 4 fbs , unlike ati cards which drop so much .
I only have the Mafia II Demo (not full version). But I played it very smooth with a GTX 470. Also, keep in mind however, that I have a dedicated GTX 260 for PhysX, so even with PhysX set to High it does quite well.
Although I cannot recall my actual FPS score, I got a "D" rating from the in game benchmark @ 1920x1080 with all the settings maxed out and PhysX on High.
If the game runs well for you while playing it, who cares what the benchmark claims? It's all about having fun with the game. So if it runs smooth, shrug your shoulders and don't worry about it.
Getting a PhysX card will help you, but not all games benefit from PhysX,so if your choices are between a CPU cooler and a PhysX card,i would recommend getting a CPU cooler, because OC'ng a CPU will give you more performance boost in games/apps, whereas PhysX will give you better performance only in titles that support it.
