Hey, I recently purchased Dell Inspiron Desktop 580

specs:-
Intel Core i5-760 Processor 2.80GHz
4GB (2X2GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz Memory
500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce G310 512MB DDR3
300 Watt Power Supply

http://www1.ap.dell.com/in/en/home/inspndt/inspiron-580...

am planning on upgrading the GPU to ATI Radeon HD 5770, but the PSU provided with it is of 300 Watt, The reprentative from Dell says the PSU provided is sufficient to run the system when upgraded,

But the official requirements for HD 5770 is 450 Watt or greater power supply

so do i need to upgrade the PSU for the GPU?

Also will the provided case be able to handle the heat when upgraded?

Dell PSUs are usually pretty good, significantly better than the crap units hp/compaq uses in their lower end models.

Check the sticker on the side of the power supply unit and post the load table, specifically your 12V rails. The 5770 doesnt take much power so if its a well built 300W unit it should be able to do it it just might be a little close to its max power.

I purchased it two days back, It is yet to be delivered to me, but this is what it says in the spec sheet about the PSU,

Wattage: 300 W
Maximum heat dissipation: 1574 BTU/Hr
Input voltage: 115/230 VAC
Input frequency: 50/60 Hz
Rated output current: 7/4 A
Power (System board): one 24-pin EPS 12V connector
(ATX-compatible)

I bought this one exclusively for gaming, hence need to upgrade to HD 5770

you probably have one of the Bestec made PSU, they have 19a on the 12v. if you have a 4-pin molex to 6-pin power connector you should be OK.
