I just built a new i7 950 system. Here are my specs:
CM 690 II Advanced
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 rev 2.0
Corsair Vengeance 1600 8GB
Intel Core i7 950
Coolermaster V8 (cpu fan)
EVGA Geforce 460 FTW edition
1TB WD Caviar Black
+3 other HDD's
My cpu temps are bugging me. Idle, I see 32-39 but when I open a game or app a core will shoot up to around 49. The highest I have seen is 58. While playing games my avg temps are mid to high 40's. I applied the V8 correctly and even took it off and bought some AS 5 grease but the temps are the same. I followed the AS5 application instructions from their site and have waited the 200 hr "break-in" period. My old Q6600 system topped at temps in the mid 40's under full load. Is the 950 just going to run hot? I'd like to overclock it at some point but not unless I get these temps under control. I also bought a Hyper 212 plus, would that be a better choice for cpu cooler?
Any ideas on how to get these temps lower? Thanks!
