Hi all,

Looking into replacing my current ram of 2 x 6 gb 1600mhz ddr3 corsair dominator ram, as it has been causing a number of bluescreens in my system, upon some reaserch, turns out the dominator ram i bought does not play will with my rampage 3 extreme mb.

What would be good ram to use for this motherboard and processor? i do overclock my processor, currently its running at 4.0, but i can probably push it higher comfortably.

i would like 24 gigs, but if itsmore compatible 12 will be fine too

any help would be appreciated thanks !

System specs:

Rampage 3 Extreme MB
I7 965 EE @4.0 ghz
12 gb ddr3 corsair dominator 1600 mhz <underclocked to 1543mhz>
gtx 580 evga black ops edition
300 gb wd raptor 10,000 rpm
windows 7 professional

Are you looking to over clock the memory past the 1600Mhz? If so that makes a huge difference. I myself used Mushkin DDR3 1600 7-8-7-24 1t memory that clocks up to 2133Mhz at relaxed timings (9-10-9-24)

Overclocking memory gives you no noticable performance difference. 1600MHz is currently the best speed for memory on newer systems.

Moving from 1600Mhz to 2133 MHz will give you *maybe* 1-2% difference in games or benchmarks and no noticeable difference for standard use.

It is not worth the extra cost.

sorry i messed that up :p

triple channel memory 2 sets of 3 2gb sticks

no real reason for 24 persae, just figured id move up since i had to replace the ram anyway, wbought this ram 2 1/2 years ago and 4 gb sticks were hard to find yet, since the 1366 platform was so new

as far as overclocking goes, my board matched the processor clock with the ram which ended up bieng 1543mhz i think it was, i dont really think oc the ram itself, without raising the processor clock as well would help much, but i could be wrong, i got that from an article i read on ram/processor relation to the i7 platform
