Will 2 0 x16 work in apci express x16

Hello, my current computer is old and the video slot holds pcie x16. Can a 2.0 x 16 or 2.1x 16 fit in that?

We need more info than that... Motherboard Model, Old GPU that was in the slot... something to give us more info./

If your motherboard was originally released to market before early 2007 then it most likely implements the PCIe 1.0a or the PCIe 1.1 specification.

If the graphics card is a relatively recent model PCIe 2.0 or PCIe 2.1 x16 card it should be fully backward compatible with PCIe 1.0a and PCIe 1.1 x16 specifications.

The graphics card won't be operating at PCIe 2.0 speed, only at PCIe 1.0a speed. PCIe 2.x has twice the per lane throughput of PCIe 1.x.

When ATI initially released their first PCIe 2.1 cards there were reports of incompatibility when they were inserted into PCIe 1.x slot motherboards because ATI had deviated from the PCIe 2.1 specifications. This shouldn't happen with recent/current PCIe 2.1 cards.
