Toshiba external hard drive not working on macbook pro

My Toshiba external hard drive will not show up on my new macbook pro. I have connected it to mac desktops and most recently another new macbook pro. It is recognized by these other systems but once I plug it into my mac it doesn't even seem to be getting power. I have plugged into both usb ports and tried restarting the computer. I have checked the disk utility and nothing is showing up there either

Maybe your USB ports are shot? Try another device on them.
