Asus xonar dx makes popping sounds

I love the sound I get from this sound card, but the popping sound I get every time I click on something is driving me nuts! I see this is a known issue, but haven't found a solution that works for my Win 7 64 bit desktop. Asus customer service was completely worthless in providing a solution. Any suggestions?

I spent a few hours before I figured out you have to check mark the s/pdif box in the packaged software.

Is it the clicking sound that Windows make by default when opening files/windows?
