12GB memory on dual channel system?

I have an ASRock P67 Extreme4 with 4GB of RAM currently installed as 2x 2GB sticks, one on each channel. Can I buy an 8GB kit and use it at the same time so I have 12GB of RAM? What configuration would I need to do so?

Yes - you would need to buy a 2x4GB kit and install one 2GB and one 4GB stick on each channel, for 12GB total.

Mixed DD3 RAM? I mean, it will run at the speed of the lowest part installed...I'd recommend matched parts. I run 12 GB in my desktop in a similar configuration just fine. That said, 12GB doesn't offer much benefit in daily computing over 8GB...but I do a lot of VM work, so I love having 4GB to assign to a Vista VM, 2GB to assign to each of 2 Ubuntu VMs, etc.

I should note I have a Gigabyte AM3 board, not the one the OP has. But I wouldn't imagine it makes too much difference.
