I am looking to upgrade my PC for Rift: Planes of Telara. I will start upgrading as soon as I get word that I am in the beta.
My current system:
Corsair 520W modular PSU
Asus P5N-E MoBo
C2D E6600 OC'd to 3.0 Ghz
8800 GTS 320MB
I am planning on replacing the GPU with a GTX 460. That is pretty much set in stone. I am just waiting as long as possible to buy it since the prices keep dropping lower and lower every week.
I am wondering if I should bother replacing my CPU. According to the Asus MoBo support site, the best CPU I can upgrade to is the Q9505 (basically a Q9550 with half the cache), and they cost around $230. According to CPU Mark, that CPU is almost on par with the i5 750.
Should I even bother upgrading my CPU? If so, is the Q9505 my best bet, or is there something else that would offer more bang for my buck?
