Approximate Purchase Date: Hopefully within the next couple of months.

Budget Range: $1,200.00

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, making music, and typical use.

Parts Not Required: Speakers

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: I've never used newegg but that seems to be the common choice.

Country of Origin: USA

Parts Preferences: Open to suggestions.

Overclocking: Open to suggestions.

SLI or Crossfire: Open to suggestions.

Monitor Resolution: Open to suggestions.

Additional Comments: I put open to suggestions for most of it because, while I'm not new to computers, I'm not up to speed on parts, brands, and so on.

I used to be a World of Warcraft player and I always used very low quality systems that forced me to have my settings at the lowest. I'm going to be playing FFXIV mostly and would love to play on the highest settings and really get the most out of the game.

In addition to gaming I'd like to be able to make music with Cubase or other software of that kind.

As most are aware when playing MMOs, time can fly by. I'd like to have a system that stays cool and optimal after plenty of time playing, even with Ventrilo/Skype running in the background.

I hope this is all possible within my budget. As I stated before, I'm used to very poor systems.

Thanks in advance for your help!

for 1200, you can get a system that could probably do all of that at once....

Core i7 950: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115211&cm_re=core_i7-_-19-115-211-_-Product ~ 294.99
MotherBoard GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128423 ~ 189.99

Graphics card ATI 5870, 1gb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102883 ~ 329.99

RAM G.Skill: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231304 ~ 149.99

Case HAF 912: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233 ~ 59.99

Power Supply Corsair: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006 ~ 109.99

Hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185&cm_re=spinpoint-_-22-152-185-_-Product ~ 69.99

Total 1204.93.
D,= I went over budget.... XD.
The Harddrive currently has a promotion of 15 off, sooooo I didn't count the promotion....

Anyway, do you need a Monitor, and Operating system? If so, I(or someone else) will yell at me and make a cheaper build.

Edit: I accidently made the price 0214.93... ^^

AMD is always the legit budget option.

I'm building a $1400-$1800 range, and debating between the two.

I wanted to say see if you want to go the Intel route, but you have to be fairly picky to really care about it.

Just make sure you leave yourself open to be able to add another identical card to crossfire or SLI them. Which means running two cards and optimizing graphics performance.

You might find out you don't need/want a 2nd card, but you should leave yourself the option.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the great replies. I've looked at each build and, honestly, they all are in my budget and would be great to have.

I definitely don't want this thread to change from helping me to debating about AMD vs Intel. However, the best computer that I've ever owned was an AMD and it was faster than any other computer I'd been on. This, of course, was ages ago. (10+ years)

$1.200.00 for me at this time is a serious investment. (As I'm sure it is for most) I definitely want to have plenty of upgrading potential.

Do you think 2 identical cards would help me in the future? Gaming? Etc...

Is AMD more budget friendly because it's lower quality? Or simply because it's different/not as popular? I remember the Celeron processors were dirt cheap but were also pretty terrible. (I could be incorrect in the name)

Thanks again for the help! This forum is amazing!
