Additional Comments: I am building for the first time and so am unsure on a lot of things because my knowladge is based off of what I have researched and read.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

CPU: Phenom II BE X4 965 ~165$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
-I really dont know on cpu's though wether I should go AMD or intel please post suggestions

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws duel channel kit, 4Gb, 2x 2gb ~ $75
(these seem the most logical as for price and quality)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Mobo: Asus 890GX ~ 150$
(again really no idea just that it can sli)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Drive: Samsung spinpoint 1Tb ~ $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Monitor: Veiwsonic 27" ~ $350 (really I just picked a random monitor with a decent eggrating If any one has opinions on monitors please let me know)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

That should be it.

as for questions
1. Should I go intel or AMD for this build
2. What motherboard would you say is necessary if I want to may be some day sli but really haven no idea
3. Should I wait to build till amd and intel release new hardware (sandy bridges, bulldozer, etc.)
4. Monitor, what is your personal preference, and what do you think would be a good choice for me. BTW this will be used in my dorm as both my tv and monitor.

Thanks in advance.

If you want to SLi, go with an nforce 980a MB. Know that two GTS 450 ($180 right now) or GTX 460 outperform a single 470 in almost every respect. A 650W power supply would suffice with your 470 or SLi 460's. A 600W PSU would be sufficient for dual 450's. I would stay with the AMD chipset if the point of this build is budget. If you're prepared to wait to build this system, buy it on black friday or cyber monday (the friday or monday after thanksgiving), they have VERY good deals on those days.

Save $50 on your monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

-OR-

Spend the same on your monitor and get LED backlit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Thanks for the over view and addition of the psu. I already have my raven tower so no need for the haf 932. I would prefer a slightly bigger monitor for my photo editing. Also is there a reason you changed out the gtx 470 for the 460?

ahhh sorry, on both counts.. =D....☺ it is OC'ed.. (plus I skim the threads, and I am woooozy from my sleeping pill(YES THEY ARE PRESCRIBED TO ME) (I take 4 and they barely make me sleepy)

can you have the system at home and use your TV for larger monitor? drop a little bit money on another GPU, maybe you can afford another 460/470.

Those sleeping pills   sound alot like roofies :bounce:

Well I graduate this year and then am off to college, I would prefer instead of buying a tv and monitor to just buy one that will fit between the 2 sizes and work for both.

As for the extra card I cant put out the extra 40-60 bucks to upgrade to 470 from the 460 but dropping another 180 on graphics cards is a little out of my budget, may be in the future I can add another and sli but not right now sadly.

GTX 470's are going on a crazy sale.
plus the nVidia GTX 5 series is about to drop.
but if your going to run an amd chip the go ATi with the graphics too..

ASUS CuCore Series EAH5770 CuCore/2DI/1GD5 Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16
8GB (4 x 2GB) G.SKILL Dual Channel Kit DDR3 1333 Model F3-10666CL8D-8GBHK
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB
OCZ Technology 60 GB Vertex 2 Series SATA II
SAMSUNG BLU-RAY COMBO 8X BLACK BD ROM/DVD WRITER

go through the student program from microsoft and get win7 for like $30..!
also, run dual monitors..

When or where have the GTX 470 gone on sale?? Also I really have no problem with going intel over amd if thats what you recommend I am just trying to get the highest performance within my budget that has room for upgrades, over clocking, and may be core unlocking. I think I prefer the nvidia graphics cards to the amd ones =/

Also could you may be post a link/links to some of the items you suggested.
