Sign of dead RAM?

My parents' HP PC is currently having No Signal issues, which never happened before. I asked on the forums for help, and was told to breadboard the PC. I booted with just he CPU, HSF, MoBo, and PSU. It beeped. Things are fine so far. I shut off the PC and I then put in the RAM. Booted. Silence. I was told if there is silence, it's the RAM that's the cause. Is the RAM really dead?

If the RAM is not dead, it may not be fully seated or the RAM socket may be dead. Did you try all the RAM sockets?

The other RAM sockets are for RAM @1066MHz (current RAM is @1333MHz and in the black slots). Is it possible to do that?

The 'Simplest Test' = Boot with (1) stick, swap and repeat. IF one stick fails then no doubts, if seated properly, the stick is dead. Also, a DIMM slot could be dead -- that 'Simplest Test' = Boot with (1) known GOOD stick in each DIMM slot; note some MOBO's that are Dual Channel with 4xDIMM slots might not allow for this test so read the manual.

Next, create a bootable copy of Memtest, use the ISO/ZIP file and run 2~4 passes; download - http://www.memtest.org/

Q - What OS?
Q - What Model of HP?
Q - What exact RAM? I prefer a link.

If Windows 7 then look at the Event Manger for Critical errors, if possible, and list the errors.

A: Windows 7
A: HP Pavilion Magnesium Grey Edition p6654y
A: I could not find the exact model, but this has the same specs and is the same brand:

I'll see if it works.

The RAM needs to be in either the 'White' DIMM slots or the 'Black' DIMM slots not both if 2 sticks; and typically the 'White' DIMM slots. IF there's a boot problem then use the 1st 'White' DIMM slot closest to the CPU.

The Samsung are fully compatible.

The manual's are horrible, but there are a few methods to Clear CMOS; see -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdHH9KrceR0
