M17x r1 mpga socket

i have an AW m17x r1 with a mpga479 socket i am currently running a intel core 2 duo T9600 and would like to upgrade to a Quad core am I SOL?

They make a Core 2 Quad for your socket. (socket P). It's The Q9000 / Q9100. The Core 2 Quad Q9000 was a factory option in that laptop, so it should work just fine. They do make a Core 2 Extreme (X9100 and QX9300) in that socket, with the same FSB. The TDP is 45w, and your old one is 35w. The Core 2 Extreme was another factory option in that laptop. :-)

are you sure i thought i could only use processors with mpga479 slots only? i looked up some of those quad cores and some were mpga478 slots. btw which do you recommend for gaming like playing starcraft 2 and which would you consider getting the most bang for your buck?

core duo is socket m, core 2 duo is socket p. they're both 478 pins, with one pin moved.
