Hard Drive error message comes up on screen can't reboot system. I need files off the hard drive what can be done?

Solution
Provided it hasn't failed altogether, install the drive as a second drive inside a working computer, or fit it inside a hard drive enclosure and plug it into a USB port on a working computer.

If it has already failed completely, only a data-recovery can help you, and their charges are painfully high.

All of this could have been avoided if you had kept your data backed up on a different hard drive, or even backed up on optical discs.
