USB drive won't connect on XP computer

Hello,

I have a Seagate USB external hard drive that connects fine to my Windows 7 computer, but I can't get it to show up on my Windows XP computer.

I can hear the tone you hear when a USB device connects, but I can not see the hard drive when I check under My Computer or Explorer.exe.

Can someone tell me how to get this drive to show up on my XP computer?

Is there an exclamation point in device manager after the connect?

No, everything looks normal in the device manager.

I am a photographer with very limited knowledge of computers, so I don't understand when you say "change the drive letter of the USB device".

If it would help understand my problem, I have two links that show my problem.

Make sure the drive is connected.

Open disk management this link will show you how http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windowsxp/ht/disk-managem...

Then change the drive letter of the external drive to something J,K,L, etc. Just make sure it is not one of the letters that is showing up in explorer. Follow this link to see how http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/ht/changedrive...

This worked perfect.

What had happened is the USB connected drive letter was assigned to drive "G", and that previously was assigned to my Drobo, so it was listed as Drobo in explorer.exe.

I now have access to the files on this new USB drive.
