Hey guys!

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but what the hey.

I have a 5850 and i was hoping to run eyefinity. I currently have 1 acer h243h monitor. I was planning on buying two dell U2211H 21.5 inch monitors, would that be ok? The u2211h are IPS while the h243h is tn. Plus it would basically be 2 21.5 inch monitors with 1 24 inch. would that be bearable?

Thanks in advance.

Well that depends on what you're doing on your computer! If you're just using it for work and office related purposes, it'll be perfectly fine (just be sure to get an ACTIVE display port converter for that 3rd monitor, whichever it is that's connected to the displayport).

If you're using it for gaming, then that's another story. Then we'll have to know what games, resolution, settings, what your CPU/MOBO/RAM/PSU/etc is.

Actually I wanted it for gaming purposes. About games, mostly sc2 a few fpses not very particular about getting the highest quality, i can do medium settings. Resolution well native would be 1980x1080 so times 3? not sure how that actually works. Ok my specs are the following:

cpu: Amd phenom II x4 965
mobo: Asus m4a79xtd evo
gpu: Xfx 5850
ram: elixir ccd 9-9-9-24 (not great i know, but those are the cheapest i could find. I couldn't find any g skill or mushkin and damn corsairs cost near a gtx460 for decent timings so i got the cheapest i could get. I'm in Japan by the way. Will be changing as soon as i can find something better.)
psu: Hec Cougar 700w 80+ bronze non-modular
cpu cooler: Thermaltake Frio
case: Lancool Dragonlord PC-K62
monitor: Acer h243h 24" tn monitor

So thats it i guess. Those dells actually already have DP's so no need for the converter. Thats one of the reason i was leaning towards them. Plus they are ips panels that cost less than 20,000 yen or approx about $240-250, depends on the exchange rate. So could i do it?

Yes it would be fine, Use the 24" for the center monitor however. and don't expect huge FPS's at that high a res with only 1 5850, It might be worth investing in another card.

So it would be alright to mix tn and ips monitors. Ok, i was thinking of waiting for the 6xxx series to come out before deciding whether or not to go with a newer card or xfire with another 5850.

Yeah, Well... The 6850's (rumored to be called the 6950) will perform around the 5870 level according to reports.

You can either get a 5850 when the prices come down, or maybe even a 5870... or a new card? I'm not sure how there cross generation xFire scaling will be though... I'd probably say sell your 5850 now, use IGP untill the 6xxx series and purchase 2x 6770's or 2x 6850's
