The I7 870 is the best that your board will ever be able to use and IMO if you ever do this should be your only choice to look at since upgrading to an I5 will yield a very small performance gain.
If you are referring to the Sandy Bridge CPUs, then you cannot install it into your computer. They are socket 1155 and are not compatible with socket 1156 motherboards.

There are no issues with the Sandy Bridge CPUs, the problem is with the Cougar Point chipset used in the socket 1155 motherboards.
