foot pedals in unreal 2004 ?

I just wondered if anyone was using foot pedals in unreal, the kind
that are used with driving games like need for speed or the Nascar
games?

I was thinking about buying the Momo racing wheel for racing games,
and it seemed to me it would be fun to be able to use the accelerator
pedal to run foward, and maybe the brake pedal to jump. Is this
possible. Would it be as simple as just going to the setup screen,
and instead of hitting a keystroke for run or jump, hit the foot
pedal and have it be recognized?

I doubt it would work, and if it did it would be totally impractical.
You would never be able to do a double jump with your foot on a pedal.

Perhaps not with pedals, but he's got an interesting idea, there. Using
one of those dance game sensor pads placed in front of one's chair with
a driver mapping the reachable pad areas to various weapon toggles. The
price certainly encourages experimentation, and there are a lot of them
listed on eBay.

And on sort of a tangent, I wonder if anyone has been able to get a PS2
controller via USB to work with UT2004's force feedback effects. I used
to have an iFeel mouse and the force feedback in UT2003 was impressive.

I very much liked UT's FF support with my old iFeel mouse, I just
regret that I had to retire the mouse for gaming duties as my MX500 is
much better. Using a gamepad for a PC FPS is a very bad idea, even if
it does have FF support.

Well, most pedals I know use a joystick interface. There should be no
problem in binding a pedal to walking forward/backward.

Don't know - that all depends on the pedal itself, the speed of your
feet, etc. I'm a drummer, so I know that with a little training, your
feet can be fast as lightning.

Aye, I was much maligned on the day that my iFeel mouse's wheel died. I
ended up buying a non-FF Dual Optical mouse to replace it, but now I
heard that Logitech will be bringing back force feedback functionality
to their MX1000 line, albeit with a different name.

A drummer, eh? So what do you do for a living?

I'm also a Computer Sciences student and a Python/Perl/PHP programmer.
I do the former for a future living, and the latter for a current
living :)
