CDRW/DVD Drive Hitachi GCC-4240N (Originally Dell P/N 3R122)

I have this bare drive: CDRW/DVD Drive Hitachi GCC-4240N (Originally Dell
P/N 3R122). I hoped it would fit into either my Dell L400 on the port
replicator or my Compaq n400c on the base unit. No way, the physical
connector will not fit. (I know that this unit will work in a Dell Inspiron
2650 and from my research on the net possibly other units)



Is there any way that I can connect this bare unit into some kind of cradle
and get the thing to work via either a USB or into one of my 2 laptops?
