Why does when i shut my computer off does it install things

Why when I shut down my computer does it say installing updates 1 of 8 but then it doesn't install. Because when I shut off at night and when i woke up in the morning it was still on update 1 of 8?

Because you are not supposed to shut it off when it is installing updates during shutdown. It tells you that. Let it continue, and when finished it will turn the system off itself. You can also change your Windows update settings to download & Install.
