DVD drives not detected.

I can not get my bios and or the EIDE controller to recocognize that a DVD optical dive is there. The drives are good and have power and the cables are good. I've tried both EIDE and SATA DVD drives and neither is being detected.
I've never seen this before.
Computer boots just fine but no DVD drives are being detected. I've pulled the battery and reset bios to default settings. There are no issues in divce manager and there are no errors codes coming up. I've looked all through the Bios setting and can't find anything turned off or set wrong. I'm using a SATA hard drive and it is working fine. I just can't figure out what has happened, usually DVD drives are plug and play and very simple to install.
Anyone have any ideas???

Try pluging the drive into a different header.
