Should ssd be set to ahci or ide

i have a 120gb agility 3 ssd on win 7 64bit, 16gb ram, i get frequent lockups that last about 2 mins and am able to move the mouse when it does this but not click on anything just get spinning cursor circle.
so my bios is set to ide not ahci, do i need to change this to fix the problem or is their something else wrong.
