ASUS P8P87 PRO B3 1155-Socket motherboard.

How many fans is it possible to connect to this motherboard? (3-pin and 4-pin)

And is it possible to connect a 3-pin fan connector with a 4-pin socket on the motherboard?

You can connect one 4-pin CPU fan, one 4-pin chassis fan, one 3-pin chassis fan and one 3-pin PSU fan, making it two of each pin connection.

You can connect more using a Y-splitter, but I do not recommend splitting from the MB and instead connecting the splitter directly to the PSU.

And yes, it's possible.
