I'm looking for an LGA1155 motherboard that has lots of SATA ports (think 8 or more) and supports RAID 5.

Not all ports need to be RAID-capable (4 would be enough), so getting a board with 5+ SATA ports (1x system SSD, 4x RAID 5 storage HDDs) and a PCI SATA controller might be cheaper in the end. 8+ fully RAID-capable slots would still be preferable, though, as it allows for the RAID to be expanded later on.

I plan on getting an i5-2500k with the board.

Thanks in advance.

Have you used the power search feature on Newegg's site?

I couldn't find any with that many SATA ports, unfortunately...what I did find was a number with 4 x 3Gbs and 2 x 6Gbs.

See if this link works:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=Property&Subcategory=280&Description=&Type=&N=100007627&IsNodeId=1&srchInDesc=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=&PropertyCodeValue=705%3A88788&PropertyCodeValue=7968%3A133290&PropertyCodeValue=7968%3A55465

That would still give you 4 in a RAID or 2 in RAID (1 or 0) if you'd like.

You could also get a RAID card if you didn't have enough ports...even a 1.5Gbs card is sufficient for the DVD drives.

Good to know...thanks Intel.

I think that's your best bet OP...that gives you room for two RAID sets, as they are usually on separate controllers.
