I7-2600k pissing me off (Gaming)

I want it to run at 4.5ghz any time I run a game, period, and then go back down to 1.6ghz when I'm surfing the net or not doing anything I care about. And it's not, the pos is staying at 1.6ghz most of the time for a lot of games but occasionally decides to ramp up to 4.5ghz when it feels like it. There is a substantial FPS difference when its at 4.5, how the heck do I get it to stay there the whole time I'm playing a game, everytime?

I got a Asus p8p67 pro board with the newest bios.

I got a EVGA GTX 570.

Try using the Asus auto overclocking utility in the Bios, it might not crank it up to 4.5ghz but it will automaticaly choose the highest bootable, stable setting to run on.

Have you seen this thread on overclocking with the P8P67 series boards? It may have the answers you seek.

It probably has something to do with turning the CStates/SpeedStep and such off.
