Which memory should I add to my system?

Hello,

Right now I have this kit installed: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL8T-6GBRM

It's running exactly at its factory specs, 1600MHz 8-8-8-24 1.60V. I would like to add either 6GB or 12GB and keep the same settings. The 3x2GB version is not available anymore, but they do have a 3x4GB version of the same RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL8T-12GBRM

I would like to make this process as painless as possible, with a stable system. What should I do? The 3x4GB kit is a bit expensive :/ However, the 3x2GB is available in the USA, so I can get it when I go there, but that will be later.

My CPU is an i7 950 @ 3.84GHz (turbo on), 160 BCLK and 10x RAM multiplier.

Thanks!

Hmm...in the US it's listed at Newegg -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231304

1. Best - Perhaps contacting Newegg 'maybe' they can get it to you somehow.

Otherwise, you have a few choices:
1. Good - eBay/sell your F3-12800CL8T-6GBRM, and get a 3x4GB kit
2. Good - Find/Google Shop for a used or 'some' re-seller of the F3-12800CL8T-6GBRM
3. Maybe - Mix with either BLE3KIT2G3D1608CE1TX0 <or> CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 DDR3-1600 8-8-8-24-2N @ 1.65v

I found a way to buy the RAM from newegg.com. I can buy either a 6GB kit ($70) or a 12GB kit ($160).

I want to have a balanced PC. I also want to play games without having to close Chrome (10+ tabs) and uTorrent.

Right now I have a problem. I can't run Crysis 2 DX11 and high-res texture pack maxed out, it runs out of RAM when it's loading a level (the recommended amount is 8GB).

Do you think 12GB total will be enough or should I go with 18GB total to be safe? This is the last upgrade my PC will receive, but it's going to be used for a while because I'm going to give it to my wife when I'm going to buy myself a new one (aiming for Q1 2012).

It might see a bit of Photoshop use later on, but this is not a priority. The main goal is to be able to play games while other applications are running. I run out of ram in some games at this point if I have a bunch of Chrome tabs open.

Thanks!
