Seagate portable hard disk no longer recognised by computer

A hard drive has two components inside it which must never come into contact with each other - - the read-write head and the disk platter (the platter is the disk with data on it that spins round at high speed).

By dropping the drive, these two components have "crashed" into each other, causing damage to both, and I'm afraid the drive is now unusable. There is no way to fix it after it's suffered physical damage.

The only solution is to throw it away and buy a new one.
