I find that there seem to be few 5.1 surround speaker sets on the market. Is this a market trend or is this just the time in between newer models?

I am asking because I am currently wrestling with Logitech on Warranty support. The Z-5500 had a faulty pod, they sent me a new one with a pd that was faulty in a different way, then now have sent me just the pod saying that was all they have record of receiving and will have to look into the matter further.

It seems to be a trend. Many makers are opting for 2.1 systems for easy setup.

There are the S550's from edifier, but they may or may not be to your liking. They tend to set the bass lower then Logitech.
It can do it, but you need to bump it up on the computer(if you have a Audigy or any card with treble/bass control and not equalizers as they tend to color the overall sound, it can be made very bass heavy) or in the speakers.
There is also NO upmixing at all and analog in only.
The build quality of Edifier is very good. At very high volumes the do not distort(nearly none at all). This is at a cost of top volume tho, i have heard far louder, but not many as clear at that level.

I just wish Altec Lansing still made good systems like the Select 641(4.1 that lasted me many years until one on the subs started to give out at the amp). Still the best I had(insanely loud and shook everything without ever turning up the bass). don't know how dual 6.5 inch subs pound so hard but they do.

I would pay good money for another set of these.
