The D2x was widely reported before its actual debut as coming in at about
$5000 msrp, but it is listed (street price) at twice that. Anybody know
anything?

How's that again? Adorama and Calumet are both selling it for $4,999. I
expect B&H will follow suit shortly--they tend not to list new products
until they can actually deliver them.

I would guess that if someone is asking $10,000 for it, they're trying to
take advantage of its temporary scarcity.

Demand is not high so they have to keep the price up?

Well, ain't that a kick in the head. When I went through the search
engines, the lowest prices I was finding were just under $10,000!!!!!

Just saw the other link. Something must be screwy with the "compare prices"
sites I was looking at this afternoon.

If I could get $10,000 for the D2x, I would immediately become a Nikon
dealer! MAP is $4,999. I suspect that is where it will sell at for a long
time.

Your source is wrong.
Street price is a little under $5K USD.

Perhaps you were looking at an international site, like Canada, or
Australia??
(They use "dollars" too, ya know...but they use MORE of them)

I wouldn't worry about it until it becomes available. Nikon is always
braggin on new models that they can't deliver on time. Meanwhile,
Canon shooters just keep clickin away!

LOL!

yes, clickin' and clickin', especially in your case :-/

super-mega-giga-extra-pixel snapshots. when will you post a photo that's
more than a snaphsot, and without your usual
supa-dupa-digital-bragga-boasta?

sorry, could not resist.

(and yes, this post has nothing to do with the people who *do* take real
pictures, regardless of whether they use C-branded, N-branded or
whatever-branded gear)

The Nikon D2X body will sell for a Canadian MSRP of $6,250, with a strett
price around $6,000 which is what the Canon 1D mk.II sells for.

While I like both Nikon and Canon cameras, and own a D70 and 20D to prove
it, I noticed that the new Dx2 has a CMOS sensor. They had to switch sooner
or later. It looks like an awesome camera, but I'm sitting tight for now.

Q. Is suggested street price also a minimum advertised price for retailers?

No.
Manufacturers have "list price" but that's almost NEVER the "street price."
"Street price is not an official term used by manufacturers. It's really
just the jargon that refers to what itmes typically sell for new.

Yeah, that I know, thank you. But I was just wondering if Nikon's announced
prices are usually the minimum advertised price as is usually the case with
Canon.
