I got a system with amd's ace fx-62 in Jan 2007 w/8800gtx

the fx62 spent me $900+ that time. now it worth $599

Today i visit one of my friend's new pc
AMD II x2 250(AM3), gt240

i do some popular benchmarks, and now I post the scores here:
********************fx-62@2.8g*** x2 250@3ghz
passmark CPU ********* 1601******* 1628
cinebench10(1U) ********2480******* 2628
cinebench10(2U) ********4700+****** 5127
sciencemark2(Priomedia)**230s******* 212s
sciencemark2(MolDyn)****52.3s*******52.2s
sciencemark2(MemBand)**8100+mb/s** 9700+mb/s
and some old like..
3dmark05 CPU 7700+ 9100+

I didn't believe those results were accurate firstly, but then
compared to the tomshardware and x-bit labs, my system's
benchmarks are mostly ACCURATE.

now we can see NONE of the tests fx-62 can compare x2 250,
even though fx-62 = 10x(x2 250)

That's really SHOCK to me, I will call it a NONSENCE or not,
cause 10x price usally means 2~3x performance, like i7 965
to e6500, no matter one has a much older architect than
another.

If it is true it means u can get a better top system
using only three 100-dollar-note, one from a pocket of ur
10 year old-fashioned cloth, another accidentally found in
one of ur old book, and the last forgotten note is from a
certain cornor covered with dusts. So, to get a more
powerful fx-62 pc, all u need to do is to clean ur house :p

So I wonder if there are any people have such problems? ;)

Yea and my $250 Q6600 beats my old $1500 Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (I only paid $150 but they started at $1500) by almost 10x in everything.

The FX you have was good for its time but its aged and unlike cheese or fine wine, computer technology does not get better with age. The older it gets, the further it falls behind.

Just like my Q6600 is easily owned by a sub $200 Sandy Bridge based CPU these days.

So, you're surprised that a really old chip is getting beat by a chip that's a LOT newer?

The Athlon X2 FX 62 was released back in 2006 or something like that, it's an OLD chip, not even worth $50 in todays market IMO. However, people are still getting a mint for them on ebay, when an intelligent buyer could get a new cpu/motherboard/ram for less that performs much better.

Welcome to the world of computers. I quit buying bleeding edge with a 386DX33. Not 3 months later a 40 came out and was cheaper. :(

I can't BELIEVE that I spent almost $1500 on my 486DX/66 system back in the day, and it is being outperformed by even the cheapest systems now! I'm sooooo mad :-P

The Athlon II X2 is based of the Phenom II architecture so clock per clock it's more efficient than your Windsor based FX 62 on top of having a 200MHz advantage. I also don't understand why you've kept your FX at stock speeds since the whole point is to overclock it. Unless you've been living under a rock these last 3 years you shouldn't be surprised since PC architectures are always improving, becoming faster and cheaper to produce. Of course lately Intel has been improving faster than AMD but we'll see if Bulldozer changes that at all.

Note to self, more money does not = better. Something better will always come tomorrow.

Be nice everybody
It is really idiotic that most Core2Quads cost more than most I-series.
But of course a 1969 Boss Mustang will cost you more than a new Mustang GT that is faster but of course there isnt much collectors interest in old CPUs LOL

I have one of every Intel CPU from 8088 to Core2Duo, (although not all form factors), except an 80186 including co-processors where applicable.

DDR2 RAM is slower than DDR3 but DDR2 more expensive. Can we just say more $s doesn't always mean better and leave this thread alone.

I have a Motorola 6809E(?) out of a TRS-80 Color Computer 128 (still in functional condition with 5 1/4 floppy drive and cassette data drive (use standard audio cassettes) even got the RF modulator.
Also pairs of 3.06 and 3.02 Prestonia Xeons
Also Pentium D 945 3.4.
I promised my friend a gaming system.
He had a C64 as a kid.
I am looking for a working Commodore 64 system.
So I want to punk him and and tell him I had a gaming system for him.
Then fire up the C64 and have Archon running.

Same here, but I have several variants of each. Everything from 8088 up to Core 2 Duo. I need a 4004 (the holy grail) and something in the Core iX family. Even the weird ones (i860, i860-XP) i've managed to find :-)

Oh I have several FF's of especially 286's and 386's but I can't have them all. :(

I saw a 4004 once mounted in some old cold war type panel but I wasn't collecting chips then, I was going for the nixi tubes outta that bad boy.

YEAH I just found a great example of Sp x1 140 amd fx-57:)

The worst cpu in q3 2010 and the top in q3 2005. The x1 140 overperforms fx-57 at a rate about 2%.

Now I know the routine that a TOP cpu will become the WORST cpu in just 5 yrs :p

if you buy the TOP end cpu you are alway paying rediculous amounts and get a poor price/performance ratio. if you buy a 3rd or 4th tier CPU you will get a much better price/performance ratio.

That's why I try to stay a few generations behind. I just wish my 386DX/33 would hold more RAM.

i started with a good mobo/ athlonII 640 for 130 bucks and then got a 955 for 50 bucks on ebay :D  sold the 640 for 60 bucks on ebay... keepign a few generations back means you can get the used parts off the early adopters for a steal and still have a system that will play anythign out

It's funny how the 386's had a physical address space of 4gb, but you never saw a chipset/motherboard that had more than 8 x 30pin simms.

Except this weird beast

Fun scavenger hunt time.... someone find a picture of a 386 motherboard (server, workstation, mainframe, whatever) that supported more than 64mb RAM :-)

Yeah. Now I know the CPU market and understand every friend above's comments.

My CPU(AX2 250) is just a Sempron 2500+(or Celeron D 300) in FX-62/E6800's era(generation)

As well as GPUs, A GT240 ddr5 which has 3X PERFORMANCE than 7900GTX
is just an FX5200 in 7900GTX's generation.....

and of course, when a top CPU is born,
his fate was determined by the god,
is that to be worshiped as caesar when he is born,
then well known and prized by most TOP gamers 1 year later,
then rapidly conquered by some CPU at 20% of it price in 2-4 years,
then under every CPU's feet and commonly insulted as one of the CPU EPIC FAILS in 5 years,
then at last gain a reputation of TRASH in the 6th last year.
What a UGLY fate.

Yeah, he will surely become a trash. The A64 939 FX-57 6 years ago now is just as rubbish as Sempron 140. (OH, BUT 140 is a good COMPETITOR cause when unlocked and overclocked to 4G it will compare a i5 750 or i7 920)
